Serving the Island and the Laguna Madre
Propane for South Padre Island, TX
Fill Up on the Mainland, Before the Causeway
Propane Delivery and Refills for South Padre Island
South Padre Island has a propane problem that has nothing to do with price: there is very little of it on the island. Propane supply sits on the mainland side of the Queen Isabella Causeway, which means every RV, every rental grill and every restaurant kitchen on the island depends on somebody planning ahead. Hino Gas has supplied this stretch of coast since 1963. We deliver bulk propane to island businesses and and you can fill cylinders at our Harlingen or Brownsville yards on the way down, so you cross the causeway already stocked rather than making the trip twice.
Nearby areas we serve: propane in Port Isabel, propane in Laguna Vista, propane in Brownsville. More detail on our propane delivery and propane tank installation pages.
Commercial Kitchens on Padre Boulevard
Island restaurants run high, sustained loads through spring break and summer, then drop off sharply. Propane handles that swing without the equipment changes a different fuel would demand.
RVs and Beach Rentals
Travel trailers, fifth wheels and rental properties all run propane for cooking, hot water and heat. Refill before you cross the causeway and you avoid the only real inconvenience of an island stay.
Storm Season Independence
The island evacuates and loses power more often than the mainland. A propane tank does not care whether the lines are up, which is why island generators and commercial backup systems are built around it.
Island Services
What We Supply to South Padre Island
Bulk propane delivery to island restaurants, hotels, condominium kitchens and beach bars, scheduled around causeway traffic and season.
Cylinder exchange and refills at our Harlingen and Brownsville yards, the practical places to top off on the way to the island.
RV propane refills for travel trailers and fifth wheels heading to island parks.
Commercial tank installation and sizing for seasonal food service, where peak demand looks nothing like the off season.
Standby generator supply for properties that cannot afford to go dark in storm season.
Grill bottle exchange for rental property managers stocking multiple units at once.
The Island Constraint Nobody Plans For
Running out of propane anywhere is inconvenient. Running out on South Padre Island means a causeway crossing in both directions, in tourist traffic, at the worst possible moment. That is the entire case for planning island supply properly: monitored tanks, scheduled deliveries and honest sizing ahead of the season rather than a scramble during it.
Scheduled Around the Causeway
Island deliveries are planned as island deliveries, not as the last stop on a mainland run that may or may not get there.
Seasonal Sizing Advice
We will tell you if your tank is undersized for the season you are about to have, which is a conversation better had in January than in March.
Sixty Years on This Coast
Hino Gas has served the Laguna Madre and this island since 1963, through every hurricane season it has had. We are listed with the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce.
Se Habla Espanol
Every part of the process is available in Spanish, for island staff and property owners alike.
Why Island Businesses Call Hino Gas
Island operators do not need a propane supplier who is cheap. They need one who understands that a missed delivery on a barrier island in July is not a scheduling inconvenience, it is a closed kitchen on the busiest night of the month.
Propane on South Padre Island: Questions We Get Asked
Where do I fill a propane tank before crossing to the island?
On the mainland, before you go over the causeway. This is the single most useful thing to know about propane on South Padre Island: the island itself has very limited propane availability, so propane is something you bring with you rather than something you find once you arrive. If you are towing an RV to a South Padre park, or restocking grill bottles for a rental, fill up on the mainland before you cross. Coming back over the causeway for a twenty pound bottle is an hour you will not enjoy losing.
Do you deliver bulk propane to island restaurants and condos?
Yes. Island food service is the bulk of what we do out there. Restaurants along Padre Boulevard, hotel and condo kitchens, and beach bars all run commercial propane, and all of them share one constraint: the delivery has to work around causeway traffic and tourist season. We schedule island deliveries deliberately for that reason rather than treating the island as the end of a mainland route.
Does propane demand really change that much with the season?
Yes, and it is the thing island businesses most often get wrong. Spring Break and the summer run push commercial kitchens to volumes they do not see in October, and a tank sized for a quiet month will not carry a busy one. If you run a seasonal operation on the island, the sizing conversation is worth having before the season rather than during it.
